Equipment & Advice
Kit & Clothing
Under 9s & Under 11s should wear sports kit, preferably white. No kit is necessary although a bat is advisable. Please ask our advice, though, if you are intending to buy your child a bat.
The Club will provide helmets, gloves, pads and bats, however eventually it will be a good idea for children to have their own kit. A jockstrap, or other box support, as well as a box or abdominal guard will be necessary and should be worn at all times.
BATS
It is very important that children should not use bats that are either too large or heavy for them – and if in doubt, always err on the side of caution.
The top of the bat should reach the top of the inside leg of the batsmen. Any taller than that and it is too big.
A good way of checking the weight is for the child to hold the horizontally with his/her top hand. If he/she can do this comfortably and steadily, then the bat is not too heavy.
The wrong size bat can seriously impair the development of a child’s batting skills. If you have any doubts at all, feel free to ask the advice of one of the coaches.
